Evading Questions

I’ve been reading through (for longer than I want to admit) the brilliant book, The Divine Conspiracy, which was written by Dallas Willard. I started the book here in Korea, and before my transition home, I am hoping to finish it up. Because of the power and depth in this book, I’ll probably be posting some thoughts or reflections here as I come across them.

We structure our churches and maintain them so as to shield us from God and to protect us from genuine religious experience…’The adult members of churches today rarely raise serious religious questions for fear of revealing their doubts or being thought of as strange. There is an implicit conspiracy of silence on religious matters in the churches. This conspiracy covers up the fact that the churches do not change lives or influence conduct to any appreciable degree.’*  -Page 201

  1. Good quote. It’s true, when we don’t find a community where we can share and be honest about our struggles & doubts, life change is difficult at best and non-existent too often!! Thanks for keeping us challenged! Love you!

  2. I’ve owned The Divine Conspiracy for five years now. I’ve read it twice and am still reading it. You’re right–it’s absolutely brilliant. Don’t feel badly that you’ve been reading it longer than you’d like to “admit.” If you’re like me, you’ll read for years and years!

    God bless.
